Few tips before travelling

We will leave in 18 days for 18 months!!!!

Travelling for a long time needs some preparation…

Here few tips and/or things you have to think about before travelling:

-      If you decide to leave everything (House, Job, Phone, Internet…) don’t forget that you have a period notice (in France for a flat or a job it’s usually a period of 3 months). So if you don’t want to pay more, send your cancellation letters at the right time. (and preferably with registered mails)
-        Perhaps it’s useful to make and communicate an address change to redirect your mails… (it’s a pity if you miss a nice bill (^^). Make also all necessary changes (like telling the tax office that your status has changed…)
-         If you think you will buy / rent a car (or a van) it is a good idea to ask for an international driving license (in France, you have to ask your “prefecture” but in other countries I don’t know, perhaps it doesn’t exist)
-         We already talk about it in our last post, but you get immunized. And for some vaccination you need more than one shot, some other have a long incubation time… so if you want to be well protected, go to the doctor at the right time!!!
-         The same applies for medicine. If you travel in some countries such as African countries you will need to take anti malaria pills…. It costs a lot of money and some of them have adverse side effects! A visit to a specialist is requested!!!
-         You should also take a travel insurance. If something happens you’ll be glad to be insured! A lot of different insurances exist. Check the terms and conditions and compare prices and quality!!! We chose Chapka Direct. To learn why, follow the link !!!
-        For your electronic devices (laptop, camera, Phone…) most of travel insurance don’t cover them enough.. lDon’t hesitate to subscribe an extra insurance only for that!
-         Perhaps for some countries you’ll need a visa to enter. For this detail allow time and money… One visa costs sometimes more than 100€ (usually between 30 and 70€), and it takes sometimes more than 1 week to get it!! (And of course check if your passport is still valid)
-         If you’re looking for sponsors, START ON TIME!!! And don’t give up if the first answers are negative. You can convince sponsors if you believe in your project and if you stay perseverant.
-         Before and during your trip, try to keep informed about the political situation in countries you will visit. If a major problem happens, change your route… Goal is to live a great experience, not to have problems…

That’s only few points to think about but there are a lot more. (Such as checking which season you’ll have in countries you visit to adapt your clothes, estimating life level to be sure you have enough money to travel, and….)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, we will be glad to help you :-)
